Dr. Alan Simmons's Lab
UC San Diego
Dr. Alan Simmons’s lab at UC San Diego investigates how the brain processes emotion, stress, and decision-making, with a focus on psychiatric health, trauma, and resilience. His team uses advanced neuroimaging, psychophysiology, and computational analysis to understand how brain circuits change in conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and mood disorders.
The lab integrates psychology, neuroscience, and data science to uncover how experiences shape brain function. Students may learn how researchers collect and interpret brain-imaging data, analyze behavioral and physiological signals, and explore new ways to understand and support mental health.
Dr. Simmons’ lab will include students participating in meta-analysis projects and working on de-identified data sets.
